Featured Product: Panametrics PT878GC Portable Gas Ultrasonic Flow Meter

The TransPort® PT878GC is a portable clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeter designed for fast and non-intrusive gas flow measurement. Its external transducers mount directly to the outside of the pipe, eliminating the need to cut into the line while avoiding pressure drop and contamination risk. The lightweight, battery-powered unit is ideal for field surveys and temporary measurements across a wide range of gases including natural gas, compressed air, and high-purity gases.

Sentrol Service: LEL Gas Sensor Calibration

LEL (Lower Explosive Limit) sensors and gas detectors are your first line of defense against combustible gas hazards. When these instruments drift out of calibration, they can fail to alarm when they should—or alarm when they shouldn’t. Either scenario creates problems: safety risks, unnecessary evacuations, or OSHA citations.
Regular calibration ensures your gas detection equipment responds accurately to the gases you’re monitoring and alarms at the setpoints you’ve configured. We offer both on-site and off-site calibration to fit your facility’s needs.
We calibrate portable and fixed gas detection systems from leading manufacturers:
– RKI Instruments
– MSA Safety
– Honeywell / BW Technologies
– Industrial Scientific
– Drager
– Sierra Monitor
– RAE Systems
– Altair

Each calibration follows manufacturer specifications and includes:
– Zero calibration in clean air or nitrogen
– Span calibration using certified calibration gas at known concentration
– Bump test verification of alarm functions
– Sensor response time evaluation
– Complete documentation with as-found and as-left readings

We use fresh, in-date calibration gases with certificates of analysis. Expired gas produces inaccurate results—a corner-cutting practice we never engage in.
Most manufacturers recommend gas detector calibration every 3-6 months, with bump tests before each use or at minimum monthly. Your specific interval depends on the instrument, the environment, and your facility’s safety requirements. We can help you establish an appropriate schedule based on your equipment and regulatory obligations.

Service Story: RKI OX-600 Gas Calibration for a Biotech Company

Gas calibrations are essential to ensure that gas detection systems remain within tolerance and provide accurate, reliable readings. Without routine calibration, detection systems can drift over time and produce false readings—creating serious safety risks in hazardous environments.
The above photograph highlights a recent gas calibration performed by Sentrol Inc. for a biotech company in Boston. The calibration was conducted on an RKI OX-600 gas detection system. Both oxygen and nitrogen were used during the process to properly adjust the sensor and bring the system back within acceptable tolerance levels, ensuring accurate performance and dependable monitoring.
Calibrations for the RKI OX-600 gas sensor are performed on a quarterly basis. However, calibration frequency can vary depending on the specific detection system and application requirements, with intervals typically ranging from every three to six months.
Routine calibration plays a critical role in maintaining compliance, protecting personnel, and ensuring operational safety.
